Samsung Wallet Plans Native Stablecoin Support As Digital Payments Expand

Samsung Electronics plans to bring stablecoin transfers into Samsung Wallet as the company expands the app beyond payment cards, rewards, digital IDs and device keys.

Samsung Wallet will expand beyond cash and savings. It will embrace new forms of digital value, including stablecoins, product manager Lee Dinham said during the company’s Galaxy Unpacked presentation on July 22.

The demonstration showed a stablecoin account labeled USDC with options to send, receive and add funds. Samsung did not identify Circle as a launch partner or confirm that USDC will be supported when the feature becomes available.

Dinham said the planned integration would make Samsung one of the first major mobile brands to offer native stablecoin functionality, allowing digital value to move directly through a smartphone wallet. Samsung presented the feature as part of a broader financial hub connecting payments, rewards and digital assets across Galaxy devices.

Coinbase Deal Already Connects Galaxy Users To Crypto

Samsung Wallet already connects U.S. Galaxy users to Coinbase, allowing eligible customers to purchase crypto through Samsung Pay and access promotional Coinbase One benefits.

The partnership initially targeted more than 75 million U.S. Galaxy users, with Coinbase and Samsung planning a wider international rollout. Samsung Wallet users can view Coinbase holdings, while purchases and account services continue to run through Coinbase rather than a Samsung-issued crypto product.

That integration opened Coinbase crypto access to 75 million Galaxy device users months before Samsung disclosed its stablecoin roadmap.

Samsung also launched the Galaxy Card with Barclays and Visa this week. The card sits inside Samsung Wallet and offers cash rewards on Samsung purchases, Wallet transactions, streaming services and general spending. Sensitive Wallet information is protected through Samsung Knox, the company’s device-level security platform.

Supported Coins And Launch Markets Remain Undisclosed

Samsung has not said whether its stablecoin feature will be custodial, which blockchain networks it will use or whether users will be able to pay merchants directly from their balances. The company also has not named an issuer, banking partner or payment processor for the service.

The announcement comes with the combined stablecoin market capitalization near $309.7 billion, led by USDT and USDC. Consumer payment apps are increasingly moving stablecoin transfers behind familiar dollar interfaces, including Cash App’s support for USDC across four blockchain networks.

Samsung has remained cautious about external stablecoin projects. The company recently denied formally joining the Open USD Alliance after appearing on a list of proposed consortium participants.

Samsung has not announced the supported stablecoins, eligible countries or a launch date for the Wallet upgrade.
