Ripple has launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a developer toolkit for building AI-agent payment applications on the XRP Ledger.

The release gives developers a starting stack for autonomous payment flows where software agents can create wallets, check balances, send transactions, track payments and pay for digital services without a traditional manual checkout loop. The first phase focuses on documentation, Claude-compatible tools, agent wallet actions and payment workflows.

The toolkit supports X402-powered payments using XRP and Ripple USD, or RLUSD. That matters because AI agents need payment rails that can handle small, fast and programmable transactions for services such as APIs, model inference, compute, data access and agent-to-agent commerce.

XRPL’s role is centered on fast settlement, predictable transaction costs and native payment functionality. For agentic applications, those features help reduce uncertainty around pending transactions, gas spikes and budget tracking. Agents can execute payments with clearer cost assumptions instead of relying on payment systems built mainly for human checkout.

XRP And RLUSD Target Machine Payments

The use of both XRP and RLUSD gives developers two different payment routes. XRP provides the native asset for XRPL settlement, while RLUSD gives agents a dollar-denominated option for workflows that need stable pricing, invoice settlement or budget controls.

That combination could be useful for applications where autonomous systems buy services continuously in small amounts. A software agent could pay for an API call only when it needs data. Another could settle a model-inference fee, buy compute or send a payment to another agent after completing a task.

The launch also connects XRPL to the wider AI-payments race. Mastercard recently launched Agent Pay for Machines with stablecoin settlement support, while Base has pushed AI-agent payment rails as X402 activity grows across crypto payment experiments.

Agent Payments Become A Crypto Infrastructure Theme

Agentic payments are becoming one of the clearest intersections between AI and crypto. AI agents need identity, spending controls, audit trails, settlement speed and programmable value transfer. Blockchains can provide part of that stack, but the winners will need more than fast transactions. Developers also need safe wallets, clear permissions, testing tools, monitoring and stablecoin liquidity.

Ripple’s launch gives XRPL a clearer entry point into that market. The starter kit is still an early developer release, but it places XRP and RLUSD inside a category that is moving quickly from experiments to real payment infrastructure.

The next test is usage. Toolkits can attract developer attention, but lasting adoption will depend on working apps, reliable agent spending controls, RLUSD liquidity, enterprise integrations and payment flows that are useful beyond demos. If those pieces develop, XRPL could become one of the networks competing to settle the next wave of machine-to-machine transactions.
